What is a Salon?
sa·lon | \ sə-ˈlän \
A gathering of notable people held by an inspiring host. During the gathering they amuse one another and increase their knowledge through conversation.
Harlem Renaissance salons were an important place for the exchange of ideas
During the Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s and '30s figures, such as Zora Neale Hurston, hosted salons that brought together leading figures in African-American literature, culture and politics. They featured the Nation's most gifted and creative thinkers so it was in these salons that the issues affecting Black people were debated and many of the great Black artists of that time were inspired.
Celebrating Legacy
Salon 7 is a live event series that pays homage to this legacy by bringing together Black leaders, creatives and entrepreneurs who are breaking boundaries - Defining the past present and future of Black history and culture.
