Harlem Renaissance salons were an important place for the exchange of ideas
During the Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s and '30s figures, such as Zora Neale Hurston, hosted salons that brought together leading figures in African-American literature, culture and politics. They featured the Nation's most gifted and creative thinkers so it was in these salons that the issues affecting blacks were debated and many of the great black artists of that time were inspired. .
