Janeese Lewis George

DC Councilmember Ward 4

Janeese Lewis George currently serves as the DC Councilmember for Ward 4. Janeese is a third generation Washingtonian and brings a wealth of experience as an attorney and former prosecutor. A proud graduate of DC public schools, she has deep roots in Ward 4, where she was born and raised.

Janeese was elected to the DC Council in 2020 and has achieved significant milestones during her tenure. Notably, she led the Council to secure historic funding to combat chronic homelessness, implemented evidence-based solutions to address areas impacted by violence, and tirelessly advocated for resources and services benefitting the Ward 4 community. Janeese shows up for her community and leads with a hands-on approach.

Janeese's commitment to community engagement dates back to her high school years when she assumed the roles of Student Representative on the DC Board of Education and Ward 4 Representative on the DC Youth Advisory Council. She also took on the responsibility of DC’s YMCA Youth Mayor. Her educational journey led her to St. John's University, where she studied Government & Politics. Following graduation, she dedicated a year of service with City Year in Los Angeles, solidifying her passion for addressing societal inequalities.

Motivated by a desire to make a direct impact, Janeese returned to DC to pursue her Juris Doctor at Howard University School of Law, completing her studies in 2014. Her legal career began as an Assistant District Attorney in Philadelphia, and later, she joined the DC Office of the Attorney General under Karl Racine, focusing on juvenile justice reform within the Public Safety Division.

Janeese resides in Manor Park with her husband Kyle and their dog, Sully. She is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and belongs to DC’s Xi Omega chapter.
