Dr. Natalie Hernandez-Green

Executive Director of the Center for Maternal Health Equity at Morehouse School of Medicine

Dr. Hernandez-Green, an Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the visionary Executive Director of the Center for Maternal Health Equity at Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM), is an influential figure in the field. Boasting a Master of Public Health from Emory University and a Ph.D. in public health from the University of South Florida, she brings over 17 years of dedicated research experience and a commitment to advancing health equity through rigorous methodology and community engagement approaches in research and practice.

Her extensive research career focuses on eliminating women's health inequities, employing a multi-sectoral and multi-level translational research approach. Dr. Hernandez-Green is a NIH R01 funded researcher with diverse extramural funding, developing multiple lines of research, including the prestigious NIH Maternal Health Research Centers of Excellence and HRSA Maternal Health Research Collaborative for Minority-Serving Institutions Research Centers. A trailblazer in maternal health, she has forged partnerships with local and national organizations, evaluating interventions, and validating effective measures of maternal mental health, medical mistrust, and psychosocial factors.

Beyond her accolades, Dr. Hernandez-Green actively contributes to various local and national maternal health organizations, including Georgia’s Maternal Mortality Review Committee, Georgia PRAMS Steering Committee, and the Maternal Health Work Group of NAESM. As a nationally renowned expert on maternal health inequities, she has presented her groundbreaking work at international, national, state, and local conferences and has been featured in the New York Times, CNN, NPR amongst many others, solidifying her impactful presence in the field.
